Attempting to complete an off the grid lifestyle 6 Months ago Karma: 1
Hi.
Does anyone know of any intra-state business that sells solar-panels?
I live between Charleston & Huntington. I have looked and all I can find is DIY Kits on the internet.
Would like to get alternative energy sources locally if possible.

Thanks!

I've researched this as well. Like you I found nothing local other than the DYI kits. I also looked into wind power and found nothing other than kits. From what I understood it would take a combination of both in order to see a real difference and unless you have a lot of money to put into both you would still have to depend on the grid.

In regards to wind, Honeywell puts out a pretty spiffy little unit that generates power at low speed and low altitude.

Solar on the other hand is "cartel'ish" in what I have found due to the fact DIY is highly discouraged by the establishment. Illegal if installed on an occupied dwelling as it violates the NEC code, installers will only mount UL approved ones, incentives require installed by certified installers and be UL approved, and if something happens and you burn down your house, homeowners won't cover it.

Hope is on the horizon however:

I emailed the company and they are not yet shipping this system. It looks quite promising. Standard panels I've found are still cost prohibitive. Over here in central VA, installers are very sparse and several hours away.

Harbor Freight does sell panels and I see on their site there is one in Charleston, WV. Other than that, its going to be via the internet or an installer.
